Let’s Meet K-Pop Idols (SBS Gayo Daejeon 2024 Edition)

As SBS has announced their first ever summer Gayo Daejeon, everyone is excited to see who will be performing at the prestigious event. Here is an introduction to all of the groups in the first lineup as we enter a new generation of leading groups! Read more to get to know about the members, iconic songs and even some fun facts. Whether you are a new K-Pop fan or even just a longtime K-Pop fan overwhelmed by the influx of new and talented groups, this guide for you!

ZEROBASEONE

Formed through popular survival show Boys Planet, ZEROBASEONE has taken the K-Pop industry and even South Korea by storm. Walking through Seoul, you will see these nine faces on many subway ads and billboards across the city. The members consist of nine boys who successfully won the hearts globally and received the most votes in the Boys Planet: Zhang Hao, Sung Hanbin, Seok Matthew, Ricky, Park Gunwook, Kim Taerae, Kim Gyuvin, Kim Jiwoong and Han Yujin. ZEROBASONE has released three mini albums as of far with their latest title track being ‘Feel The POP’ in their ‘You Had Me At Hello’ album. With a couple years left in their temporary contract, there is no doubt that ZEROBASEONE will make their mark as fifth generation legends.

Fun Fact: Alongside being a multi-talented musical prodigy, Zhang Hao is the first foreign idol to win a K-Pop survival show with a overwhelming amount of votes totaling up to 1,998,154 votes internationally. Center Hao is truly one for the books.

NewJeans

Making their image as Gen MZ icons, NewJeans is a five member girl group that has captured the hearts of the world with their youthful charms and trendy ear worms that are stuck in your head for weeks. The iconic members of NewJeans are: Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein. After a year of hiatus, NewJeans has risen up the charts yet again with their double single ‘How Sweet’ and ‘Bubble Gum’. These girls are truly unstoppable as they become global superstars in both the east and even the west, representing the current state of K-Pop.

Fun Fact: Two of the members, Hanni and Danielle, are Australian! The duo are loved down under, enough that the Aussie duo even did a photo shoot with Vogue Australia for a magazine that was sole all over the nation.

ENHYPEN

The final result of the intense and unique MNET survival show I-Land, ENHYPEN showcases a masculine and cool charm that highlights their dynamic choreographies and stable vocals. Like ZEROBASEONE, fans had the opportunity choose the members for the group and therefore recieve a solid lineup of stars. These seven individuals are: HeeseungJayJakeSunghoonSunooJungwon, and Ni-ki. The group has just announced their 2nd studio album ‘Romance : Untold’ which is set to release on the 12th of July.

Fun Fact: Unlike most standard groups, ENHYPEN doesn’t have any official positions aside from a leader (who is also surprisingly their second youngest member!). This allows all of the members to showcase their all-rounder talents on stages and alter between comebacks.

Tomorrow X Together (TXT)

TXT was once the rookie group that was known as the second boy group from Big Hit Entertainment. Now they are icons who were part of the leading forces that made the 4th generation K-Pop popular in the west. With 5 years of experience up their sleeve, TXT have release multiple mini and full albums where they have experimented with various concepts and genres. The five members of TXT are: SoobinYeonjunBeomgyuTaehyun, and Huening Kai. Their last comeback ‘Deja Vu’ takes the dramatic aesthetic that their recent sound has been developing on and has stunned fans with sheer beauty.

Fun Fact: In one of the debut performances for Crown, TXT faced an incident where the backing instrumental had cut off for a a moment. While this had confused them at the time, it also proved that they had been performing with amazing live vocals from their first days as idols!

(G)I-DLE

Empowering women one day at a time, (G)I-DLE have self-developed themselves as positive role models for fans all across the world. Debuting back in 2018, the five member girl group has established themselves as confident queen-like figures who strive to change the norms of the industry, representing these qualities in hit songs such as ‘Queencard’ and ‘Nude’. The members of (G)I-DLE are: SoyeonMiyeonMinnieYuqi, and Shuhua. (G)I-DLE are planning to comeback with their seventh mini album ‘I SWAY’ on the 8th of July, raising anticipation from fans as they are curious to see what new and innovative concept the girls have in store for us this time.
