The DMZ is a popular tourist destination, with visitors coming to see the Joint Security Area, where North and South Korean soldiers stand face to face, and to visit other sites such as the Observatory, which provides a view of North Korea across the border.
About DMZ
The DMZ, or Demilitarized Zone, is approximately 4 kilometers wide and is designed to serve as a buffer zone between the two countries (South and North Korea). It is one of the most heavily militarized borders in the world, with barbed wire fences, landmines, and military installations on both sides.
It is also home to a unique ecosystem that has developed over the years due to the absence of human activity. It has become a sanctuary for many rare and endangered species of plants and animals.
our DMZ Tour Highlights:
Unlike other common DMZ tours, this DMZ tour offers more diverse experiences in several regional DMZs, such as Gimpo, Paju, and Cheorwon.
1. Gimpo DMZ Tour
The highlight of the Gimpo DMZ tour is visiting the observatory, which is the closest to Seoul and the closest to see North Korea. You can use the telescope at the observatory to see North Koreans living. Also, you can go inside the battleship that participated in the actual battlefield and see the vividness of the Korean navy’s actual life.
2. Paju DMZ Tour
This Paju DMZ tour does not visit the 3rd tunnel, but unlike other DMZ tours, there are lots of interesting activities that you can experience. Camp Greaves, the only U.S. military camp located inside the ‘Civilian Control Line’ in the past, offers various activities such as wearing military uniforms and making dog tags, and makes unforgettable memories by taking photos as if you were the main character of Korean drama which was filmed in this camp.
To get into Civilian Control Line, you will take gondola over the river. At the end of the tour, you will get a chance to see the North Koreans’ living at the Odusan Observatory, where you can see the land of South Korea and North Korea at a glance.
3. Cheorwon DMZ Tour
The Cheorwon DMZ tour will visit several places, including the Labor Party Building, the Battlefield of the White Horse Hill, and the Peace Observatory.
The Labor Party building was actually used by North Korea in the past, and there are lots of marks of bullets during the Korean War, so you can feel the vividness of the war.
There are some days that people can’t visit due to the national security situation. The Battlefield of the White Horse Hill is the place where the fiercest battle took place in the Korean War, and there are still many remains that have not been found.
