About Soswaewon Garden
A private garden during the Joseon period now open to the public where you get to enjoy the traditional beauty that is well preserved. The Soswaewon Garden was built by Yang San-Bo from 1503 to 1557. Even after 500 years, the garden still retains its beautiful appearance. Built during the Joseon Dynasty, this was a place built for scholars to leave one’s busy life to live a secluded life.
As the garden is a place built for scholars to spend the rest of their lives there, the garden is surrounded by greeneries where you get to enjoy the sound of water, birds, winds, and leaves. It is a garden where you get to relax and meditate giving you a sense of calm, peace, and balance.
How to get to Soswaewon Garden
- Bus = Seoul Bus Terminal → Gwangju Bus Terminal → Take Bus No. 2-1 or 2-4 and get off at Soswaewon Bus Stop.

If you are looking for a healing experience surrounded by nature, this is the place!
Parking is free and it’s a great place to relax your soul.

The Garden is really beautiful with trees, stream and korean history in harmony.
The place is smaller than I imagine, but its totally worth it. Wearing the traditional clothes and listening to the guide (that was dressed as a Korean scholar!) explaining the place made me feel like I was in a historic drama.
We could also eat traditional food for lunch and it was delicious.
I recommend this tour.
