Walking Under the Road Filled with 1,200 Cherry Blossom Trees in Full Bloom
Hadong County in Gyeongsangnam-do Province is widely known as one of the major hubs of green tea cultivation in Korea. However, during Springtime, this region is famous for another special thing: Hwagae Cherry Blossom Festival.
When April arrives, the Hwagae region in Hadong is carpeted in the beautiful pure white color of cherry blossoms which turn the whole area into a fuzzy, dreamy spring wonderland. The most popular attraction of the Hwagae Cherry Blossom Festival is the Simri (10-ri) Cherry Blossom Road that extends for 4 km and filled with 1,200 cherry blossom trees. These trees are believed to be 600 years old! The Simri Road also connects Ssanggyesa Temple – one of the most popular temples in the Jirisan area and Hwagae Market – one of the five biggest traditional market in South Korea. The market offers various types of local products and delicacies that you cannot experience anywhere else in South Korea.
Legend has it that this road hides a miracle: if you walk along this path while holding hands with your lover, you will get married and live happily together forever. Because of this myth, the road is also called the “marriage road”. Therefore, this is a must-go destination for couples!
