Top 10 ranking spiciest food in Korea
Do you like spicy food?🔥 🌶 Are you willing to try spicy food for the first time on your trip to Korea? 🥵 Then you should know that Korean food could be fine-spicy but sometimes could be extremely spicy. 🥢 For this reason we made a ranking of the top 10 spiciest foods in Korea starting from less spicy until the king supreme spicier Korean food. I am a foreigner living in South Korea so I will let you know from a foreigner point of view what about the different kinds of Korean food and how spicy they can be. Let’s get started. Anyway, there is a word you will always have to remember: “매워요?” (Me-wo-yo?) which means, “is it spicy?” 🌶🥢
Rank #10: Fried chicken (치킨) ↓ 🔥
Korean Fried Chicken is in the rank no. 10 since there are a lot of different kinds of fried chicken so you can choose whereas spicy, medium spicy or not spicy chicken. Korean Fried Chicken (치킨) is famous for eating while drinking beer (맥주). If you eat chicken and drink beer so you will be having Chimek (치맥). If you are not into spicy food you can go for “Honey Chicken (허니치킨)” or “Soy Sauce Chicken (간장치킨)”. If you are willing to try some spicy but nothing hard to eat we recommend you to go for Spicy sweet Chili (양념치킨). Now, if you really want to try a spicy burning and hot fried chicken you should order a hot spicy chicken (디진다치킨/메운치킨). The normal price for 2 person is around US $18-$20. Most of times includes radish, side dishes, and coke.
Rank #9: Dak Galbi (닭갈비) ↓ 🔥
Dakgalbi, in English, stir-fried chicken, is a Korean chicken dish made by pan frying marinated chicken in spicy Korean sauce called gochujang. Also this dish is cooked with cabbage, perilla leaves, sweet potatoes, and tteok (rice cake). I highly recommend to visit the restaurant called “Yoogane(유가네)” since their specialty is Dakgalbi in so many different kind of styles, so you can choose the one seems better for you. The best you can try is the normal traditional dakgalbi with cheese. Once the the cheese is melted in your stir, you mix your chicken with the melt cheese and the combined taste is something really amazing. You can find Yoogane Restaurant all around Seoul like Myongdong or Hongdae. (Refer to the google maps above) 🥟
Rank #8: Kimchi chigae (김치찌개) ↓ 🔥

As a foreigner living in Korea I can tell that at the beginning the Kimchi taste for me was very sour and I did not like it at all; but once you try kimchi for first time there is no way you can stop eating it and that is exactly what happen to me with the Kimchi chigae. Kimchi itself is a sidedish of salted and fermented vegetables but putted into a stew it turn more amazing. Koreans put pork, tofu and some vegetables to the Kimchi chigae but also there is vegetarian version which is made by tuna (참치김치찌개). So far, this is a must try dish in Korea since mix the most traditional side-dish (Kimchi) and vegetables which make it even more tasty.
By the way, If you want to try cooking class in Korea I highly recommend you to take a class (refer to the box below), you will learn how to make traditional Korean food, among them, Kimchi Chigae. You will be in-charge to make your own food, so do not worry, is up to you how much spicy you want to include in your kimchi stew
Rank #7: Bibimnengmyong (비빔냉명) ↓ 🔥🔥
Bibimnengmyong is one of this blog entry writer’s favorite dishes. Believe it or not, is a cold noodle dish, served cold (with ice) and with a spicy, vinegary, slightly sweet sauce. Also as topping it can include some cucumber, apple and pear. The taste is sweet but after 5 minutes the spicy starts to be felt on your tongue and mouth. The spiciness of this dish is not “oh, hell spicy” but still if you are very sensitive to spicy it may become uncomfortable. This this is specially recommended for summer season, but still, you can eat it at any season. 🔥
Rank #6: Tteokbokki (떡볶이) ↓ 🔥🔥
Tteokbokki is a popular Korean street food made from small tteok (tteok is known as the korean rice cakes). This street food dish is usually served with oden (fish cakes), green vegetables and boiled eggs. The spiciness of this dish comes from the spicy gochujang (chili paste) which most of the Korean dishes have included. Depending in where you eat will be the level of spiciness you will feel, each restaurant or street food place have a different recipe for the spicy sauce. Anyway, before eating, make sure to try a little to see if the spiciness is enough for you or not. Me living in Korea as a foreigner have to confess that this dish is not spicy anymore, I got use to it, but there is a lot of spicy dishes that will be high ranked in this list because at least for me, they are impossible to eat; but tteokbokki is fine! so give it a try! You can taste this amazing dish for only US $3 on the Korean streets. 🔥🥵
Rank #5: Nakji-bokkeum (낙지볶음) ↓ 🔥🔥🔥
Rank #4: Jjampong (짬뽕) ↓ 🔥🔥🔥
Rank #3: Agu Stew (아구찜) ↓ 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This dish is made in Korea by blackmouth angler which is a fished (with palatable chewy texture) called agu in Korea. The spicy of this dish is given because is seasoned with red hot chili pepper, soy bean paste, soy sauce and garlic. in addition, This dish contains soybean sprouts, Styela clava and water dropwort. The taste of this this is very delicious and I obviously recommend you to try it if you are willing to taste some Korean food.
Rank #2: Spicy Pork Ribs Stew (매운갈비찜) ↓ 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Spicy Pork Ribs Stew is a popular Korean dish which is very delicious and of course have a spicy ingredients that make you feel in trouble. This dish can be found in two types, the first one can be like beef short ribs version, but it’s more commonly version is the one made with pork ribs. What make this dish spicy is the red pepper sauce which this dish is slowly cooked with. This dish can be served with rice with will help you to calm down the spicy flavor. Anyway, this dish is not very popular among restaurants but if you are able to find a place which sell this dish, you must need to order and try it!
