Overview

Eat your way through Suwon
  • Learn about the stories behind the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Along with the historical tour, you can eat your way through Suwon!
  • Your very own Mukbang at the Suwon Chicken Street.
  • Continue eating your way through Suwon by visiting the Jidong market and try some Korean snacks!
  • Lastly, enjoy a traditional Korean Jehocha Tea (Plum Tea).
Yeonmudae (Dongjangdae)

Dongjangdae Command Post, nicknamed Yeonmudae, is open on all sides and is a great place to see the fortress at a glance. However, Yeonmudae was not used for surveillance but was a historical place where military officials practiced martial arts during the Joseon Dynasty. You can spend a moment to feel the bravery of the military officials of the past.

Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion (Dongbukgakru)

The Banghwasuryujeong Pavilion, located in Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, is an exhibition building, but also functions as a pavilion built with stone and wood. Take all your Instagram shots here with Banghwasuryujeong and Yongyeon as the background.

Suwon Chicken Street

In Suwon fried chicken street, you can find whole chicken cooked in a cast-iron pot, which is very popular among locals. This is also an opportunity to actually taste the fried chicken that was featured in the Korean movie “Extreme Job”.

Jidong Market

People say it is impossible to tell which of the 40 or more snack bars in Jidong Market is the best and that every snack bar serves great food. You can choose and try 3 kinds of food in the market, and pick the best one that you like among the 40+ snack bars. The exterior of the market was designed to look similar to the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. It makes you feel like you are browsing the market inside the Suwon Hwaseong fortress itself.

Haenggung Street

It’s time for traditional tea! At the last leg of the tour, we will be visiting Haeunggung Street. It is believed that the street was a place known as a place for peddles hundred years ago. On the street we will be enjoying a Jehocha tea made by brewing dark smoked plum (omae). It is known to lower fever and help digestion. Don’t miss the hidden stories of Jehocha tea and Crown Prince Sado.

I think that this tour is perfect for those who want to explore and learn more about Korea’s history. Most people come to only visit Seoul or other popular cities, but Suwon has its own charm and the tour really helped highlight that. The architecture and history of the buildings was quite interesting to hear about, the food markets were an exciting place to see and experience, and the food I got to eat on the tour was delicious. I would say a con of this tour is the walking, you do quite a lot of it which could be either negative or positive based off your preferences. Overall I would still recommend this tour!
